Kingsteignton Win Disability Award

Many of our DSActive sessions win awards, thanks mainly to all of the hard work of the coaches and volunteers who ensure the sessions run week in week out. This blog will focus on one such club, Kingsteignton Tennis Club who, in January, won the Disability Award from Devon LTA – congratulations team!

Kingsteignton is a town situated just south of Exeter in Devon. The club launched their DSActive session back in the summer of 2018 and has continued to be a very popular session. The coaching team do a brilliant job of tailoring the session for each player, and welcoming everyone with open arms.

Kingsteignton Tennis Club thoroughly deserved to win the Devon LTA Disability Award this year. They’ve done a brilliant job of getting the DSActive tennis session up and running, and everyone on the coaching team has been incredibly welcoming of all the new players with Down’s syndrome. A special thank you has to go to James, head coach Rachel and newly qualified coach Tom, for all their enthusiasm and hard work making the session so successful.Doug, DSActive Sports Officer

The DSActive tennis programme continues to go from strength to strength with more and more sessions joining the programme. Tennis proves to be a very popular sport for people with Down’s syndrome, and this year we have many exciting projects coming up. This year we have our second National Tennis festival taking place in London, and a regional tennis event in Liverpool. To find out more please contact the DSActive team.
