Midlands Down’s Syndrome Football club is a volunteer run football session which has been running out of Trinity High School in Birmingham since April 2017. The session started with only a few participants, but it has since grown into a popular session with 10 participants attending on a monthly basis. One of the DSActive team dropped by for their final session before Christmas to see how they were getting on…

As soon as you step through the door at the sports centre the sense of community exhibited by all, from players and the coach, to the parents and the siblings, is fantastic to see. Everyone greets each other, the parents share stories from the previous month. Luke, the volunteer coach, is full of enthusiasm and it is clear how popular he is by the welcome he got from all the players. As it was the Christmas special, there were a range of fantastic Christmas jumpers and outfits on show.

The players split in to two groups, with the juniors on one side of the hall, and the older players on the other. The juniors, with some help from their siblings, played a game of football bowling and this time the girls came out on top despite a valiant effort from the boys. The older group were practising their shooting with a variety of different drills, it’s fair to say the parent in goal didn’t save very many!

As it was the Christmas special, everyone finished slightly early to receive their Christmas present from coach Luke and his team. Luke gave the players some homework, thanks to sponsorship from SJSocial and Fort Royal Property Solutions, each player was given the chance to design the teams brand new kit which they will be getting in the new year. We can’t wait to see what the new kit looks like!
