On Sunday 14th June, twenty DSActive teams from across the country gathered to compete in the 2015 DSActive National Festival at The Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury.
There was a wonderful mix of established and new teams playing together throughout a fantastic day of football eg. Burton Joyce who have only been running for six weeks and the Fulham Badgers who have been running since 2006.
Teams travelled from far and wide and the excitement generated in the lead up to the tournament, didn’t abate when the 4 groups kicked off at 12.30. Newcastle, Everton and Charlton were winners of their groups. The white-group’s heats came down to the wire between Shrewsbury Town and Hull City. Hull came back from 3-1 down to go through as group winners with just 3 minutes of their match left to play.
After two fantastic semi-finals which saw Everton beat Newcastle and Charlton beat Hull, the stage was set for the big final – Charlton Upbeats vs Everton.
Less than a year old, the Everton team, who were impressive throughout the day, narrowly lost to the Charlton Upbeats who went away as tournament winners for the third time.
It was a fantastic day for everyone and we’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to every player, family member and coach for making the festival such an excellent sporting event! We can’t wait for DSActive Festival 2016!
