Newcastle Open Day at St James Park

Every year Newcastle United opens the gates to St James Park so their fans can come and see the 1st team train.

This year, just before the 1st team came onto the field, the projects managed by Newcastle United Foundation got the chance to show how good they are in front of a big crowd at St James Park and their DSActive side was part of the demonstration. We were invited to join them and watch the DSActive team train and play on the famous ground.

The DSActive players met many of their heroes and then got the chance to walk down the tunnel and on to the pitch. Dwight Gayle spent a lot of time with the players and joined them for a game. We joined them for a passing and movement drill and it was clear to see from the skills on show why the Newcastle DSActive team got to the final of the 2017 DSActive National Festival. In a hard fought match in front of the St James Park crowds goals were flying in from everywhere. There were some fantastic celebrations, including some of the best dabs we have seen for a while. Footage of this can be seen on our social media platforms.

The DSActive project manager was delighted to be invited to the event and commented:

“It was fantastic to get to watch the players on the pitch playing some great football and showing off their skills. It was a really enjoyable day and Newcastle United Foundation should be really proud of all the hard work they have put in to their DSActive team and all the other projects they managed.”
