Inspiring people with Down’s syndrome – Visiting Inspire Suffolk’s DSActive session

September is when children and students head back to school or college after their summer holidays and our countryside begins to blaze with autumn colour. It is also the start of the new football season.

To mark the launch of Inspire Suffolk’s seventh season, they invited the DSActive team to drop in and observe their session and to deliver their Coach Education Workshop to the Inspire Suffolk team.

The DSActive Coach Education Workshop was delivered on Friday night. The Inspire Suffolk coaches were very attentive during the workshop, asked plenty of great questions and it was clear they are very passionate about what they do. One coached commented that they had learned so much during the workshop and could not wait to apply it to the sessions. The DSActive team got to watch the coaches in action the next day at their Saturday morning session.

It began with a drill to work on footwork, dribbling and shooting all in one go. The second drill worked on passing and moving, an essential part of football. Both drills were very popular, and were a great way to warm up and get ready for the match which ended the session.

The match at the end was a great demonstration of all the hard work that has been going on in the sessions. It was wonderful to see some of the parents getting involved as well. There were some fantastic goals, and some even better celebrations!
