A Tennis Filled Weekend

Two of the longest running DSActive tennis sessions are with Pershore Tennis Centre and Hale Lawn Tennis Club. One of the DSActive team went along to their latest sessions to catch up with the clubs.

This summer promises to be a summer full of fantastic sport. The Cricket World Cup is about to start, the England Women’s Football World Cup is around the corner, the Netball World Cup, and the men’s Rugby World Cup all around the corner. However, we must not forget about the longest running tennis tournaments in the world, Wimbledon.  The beginning of July symbolises the return of strawberries and cream and the dusting down of the panama hat as the greatest players in the world descend on South West London.

It’s also a busy time for our DSActive tennis clubs, as we see new players trying out the sessions, the reunion of old friends and the level of tennis continuing the rise. Pershore is a market town based just outside of Worcestershire, and nestled in to the countryside is Pershore Tennis Centre. The tennis centre has outdoor courts and 4 indoor courts in their dome. The DSActive tennis session is led by head coach Steve, who is brilliantly supported by 2 additional coaches. The session averages 15 participants, and there is a wide range of abilities and ages, highlighting how inclusive tennis can be. The session started with a fun warm up, before the players were split into groups to work on their ground strokes. Each player has shown amazing progress since they started, and there were some incredible backhands on display!

Next on the trip was the DSActive tennis session with Hale Lawn Tennis Club in the leafy suburb of Hale just outside Manchester. The session runs monthly, and players flock from all over Manchester to attend. The club have been fantastic in opening their doors and community to the new players, and the DSActive session has become a big part of the club. The session revolved around the players working on their forehand, in particular aiming the forehand at the coaches! The session finished with all the players gathering in the club house to eat hot dogs and socialise.

Alex from the DSActive team said

It’s always great fun to come and watch the sessions. I’ve been lucky enough to see two brilliant sessions this weekend, one in Pershore and one in Hale. Both sets of coaches do a fantastic job in providing a fun and engaging session, and both clubs have welcomed the players in to the clubs with open arms.
