Last Friday saw one of the DSActive team dropping by to watch the DSActive football session with Burton Joyce Football Club in Nottingham, a session which recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary and sees 12-15 participants turning up each week. The ground is set in the beautiful Nottingham countryside and the session is a real family affair with head coach Andy brilliantly assisted by his daughter Alice and wife Diane, with many of the parents willing to be involved in the session.
The session started with a fun warm up to get everyone ready for the session. Then the group split into two with half going with head coach Andy to work on their passing and half going with the parent volunteers to work on their shooting. The groups then swapped over before all coming together to play a very competitive fixture at the end. The session finished with a penalty shootout, there were some fantastic goals and plenty of even better celebrations.
What immediately strikes you when you watch the session is the togetherness of the club. The parents, the players and the coaches all thoroughly enjoy being in each other’s’ company, which was summed up perfectly by one parent who said: “All the parents, and the players, leave with a big smile on their face.”
The DSActive Project Manager Alex said:
“It was a fantastic session to watch. All of the players really look after each other, and huge credit must go to Andy, his family and the volunteers for all their hard work. One volunteer said to me that this session was the highlight of their week, and it’s easy to see why.”
